Things to do

Whether you wish to cycle, play golf, walk, shop, laze on the beach, cruise the coastline, visit historic houses, or try your hand at mackerel fishing or wind surfing, we have it all!

There are 300 miles of coast and countryside footpaths in West Dorset, including a good stretch of the South West Coast Path, Britain’s longest national trail. The Jurassic coast World Heritage Site is just a mile away.  In seaside towns such as Charmouth,  Lyme Regis and West Bay (all no more than 20 minutes drive away) you can fossil hunt and explore prehistoric geology while enjoying a traditional day out by the sea. Alternatively, right outside Symondsbury Manor you can climb to the top of local landmark Colmer’s Hill, a favourite subject for artists and photographers in these parts, which gives you panoramic views of Dorset.

Symondsbury Manor is located just outside the market town of Bridport where you’ll find excellent independent shops for local food, clothes and gifts, and great pubs, cafes and restaurants. Every Saturday, market stalls fill the streets where you’re bound to find a bargain. There’s also an art and antiques quarter to explore, housing artists’ studios and rambling warehouses full of vintage furniture and bric-a-brac, plus an outdoor vintage French market on the last Sunday of the month (running from March-October).
