Food and Drink

Bridport, voted the Best Local Food Town in Dorset, is just 2 miles away and boasts two bakeries and three independent butchers  including ‘Balsons’  – the oldest family butchers in the country. It is also the venue for a great street market every Wednesday and Saturday and a Farmer’s Market on the second Saturday of the month.

On arrival, you’ll find something fresh like eggs from our chickens, vegetables from the garden or a cake. You’ll need to stock up for the rest of your stay though, so here are our suggestions to make Dorset food one of the highlights of your stay.

Local shops

There is a village store and a cafe just next door (both open 7 days a week) which are popular with locals and visitors. There is also have a beauty salon and hairdresser, a gift shop, a florist and a barn selling vintage items.

Washingpool Farm Shop, just 1.5 miles away, won the Taste of the West Local Retail Outlet 2010 and also has a great café.

Bridport also boasts the oldest family butchers in the country – Balsons Butchers and Leakers Bakery and many more fantastic shops and suppliers. Why not visit the Bridport Farmers Market, on the second Saturday of each month.
