Things to do
Whether you wish to cycle, play golf, walk, shop, laze on the beach, cruise the coastline, visit historic houses, or try your hand at fishing or shooting a few clay pigeons, we have it all!
There are 300 miles of coast and countryside footpaths in West Dorset, including a good stretch of the South West Coast Path, Britain’s longest national trail. The Jurassic coast World Heritage Site is just a mile away. In seaside towns such as Charmouth, Lyme Regis and West Bay (all no more than 20 minutes drive away) you can fossil hunt and explore prehistoric geology while enjoying a traditional day out by the sea. Alternatively, right outside Symondsbury Manor you can climb to the top of local landmark Colmer’s Hill, a favourite subject for artists and photographers in these parts, which gives you panoramic views of Dorset.
If you’d like to spend some of your stay in Dorset trying something new, here’s a flavour of what’s on offer:
Symondsbury Manor is located just outside the market town of Bridport where you’ll find excellent independent shops for local food, clothes and gifts, and great pubs, cafes and restaurants. Every Saturday, market stalls fill the streets where you’re bound to find a bargain. There’s also an art and antiques quarter to explore, housing artists’ studios and rambling warehouses full of vintage furniture and bric-a-brac, plus an outdoor French market once a month.
Artist and teacher Veronica Hudson veronicahudson.co.uk can create a tailor-made workshop that will inspire everyone whatever age, experience and interests. Get messy, get inspired and perhaps discover hidden talents you never knew you had. Veronica’s wonderful wooden studio with a log fire and veranda overlooks the sea and is set in a secluded National Trust wooded landscape.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
Serious fun clay shooting you will coached on different techniques and will have the chance to fire at clay targets launched from various traps at different angles and speed that can be adjusted to your ability.
You and your Party will have 40 clays apiece with a variety of guns to choose from varying from 12 bores to 410′s.
Electric Bike Tours
One of best ways to explore the stunning landscapes of West Dorset and East Devon is by electric bike. For a novel day out, Marshwood Trails offer a range of tours to help you discover this beautiful area.
